Since
a kitchen display system (KDS) performs the mission critical job of automating
production in a restaurant, a well-designed KDS must be highly reliable. Any
interruption of the automated operation, especially during peak business
hours, cannot be tolerated as it will likely cause significant disruption to
the business. The challenge for KDS hardware, therefore, is that the equipment
must work flawlessly and continuously under harsh kitchen conditions.
Preferably, the system should have the high fault tolerance feature known as
zero-single-point-of-failure. A single network connection breakage, for
example, should not interrupt the operation of any workstation. Furthermore,
well-designed self-diagnostic features should generate alarm messages and show
the location of the breakage should one occur, enabling immediate repair. Other
highly desirable hardware features of a modern KDS include small physical size,
easy mounting, rugged construction, low cost, and being simple to install,
maintain and upgrade. Fiesta KDS offers the hospitality industry the
choice of two hardware platforms for kitchen display system deployments -
the Fiesta KDS solutions.
